Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
It is the intent of RISE Charter School to ensure that students who are disabled within the definition of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 are identified, evaluated, and provided with appropriate educational services. For those students who need or are believed to need special instruction and/or related services under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, RISE Charter School shall establish and implement a system of procedural safeguards. The safeguards shall cover students’ identification, evaluation, and educational placement. This system shall include:

  1. Notice;
  2. An opportunity for the student’s parent or legal guardian to examine relevant records;
  3. An impartial hearing with opportunity for participation by the student’s parent or legal guardian; and
  4. A review procedure.

The Board directs the Executive Director or designee to fulfill the following responsibilities:

  1. To coordinate 504 compliance efforts;
  2. To adopt and publish grievance procedures that incorporate appropriate due process standards and that provide for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints alleging any action prohibited by Section 504; and
  3. To notify students and others that RISE Charter School does not discriminate on the basis of disability.
